Mouth the Words

View

“Mouth the Words” is about Saturn return—that tender and tumultuous time in our life when we reckon with the past and think about what to bring with us into the next phase. Several songs on the album consult the stars and planets for direction. I kept thinking about how the constellations have this invisible pull on our lives.

Summer Turns to Fall

View

What a wondrous summer that was. We had a riot playing the Edmonton Folk Festival, Savannah Music Festival, Merelfest and more. Highlights include a collaborative set with our dear friends Ranky Tanky at the Vancouver Folk Festival and an illuminating hang with my hero Ry Cooder. Headed into the creative laboratory this fall but will venture out for a Folklife tour of Ontario in November and a sneak preview of my next album on October 19 at the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts in Leavenworth, WA. Hope you’re thriving.

Recreate Your Roots

I’m excited to announce that I’m curating a roots music symposium at the University of Colorado Boulder this winter. It’ll feature Dom Flemons, Anna & Elizabeth, and my Folklife Project in collaboration and conversation over two weeks. If a TED-talk and a fiddle camp had a love-child, this would be it. All workshops and concerts are free and open to the public. More news soon!

New Album Out Now!

View

My brand new album, Jayme Stone’s Folklife, is out now! You can listen to the record here and get your copy now on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon and Borealis Records.

Jayme Stone’s Folklife follows the bends and bayous through the deep river of song and story. This gathering of versatile musicians blows the dust off of old songs and remakes them for modern ears. The album is a musical journey through the Appalachians, the Sea Islands and the Caribbean. With spellbinding singing and virtuosic playing, the repertoire reaches into the arcane corners of American roots music with shape note hymns, Gullah spirituals and Creole calypsos. It features singer extraordinaire Moira Smiley (tune-yArDs), Grammy-winning songster Dom Flemons (Carolina Chocolate Drops), cornetist Ron Miles (Bill Frisell), singer Felicity Williams (Bahamas) and more.
